About Jenny Els
How it all started
Like so many others I had a book to write. It was the story of my life – my memoir.
Having
had
experience
in
desktop
publishing,
I
knew
I
would
be
self-publishing
–
but
I
had to learn how.
Three
South
African
Women
was
published
in
2014.
It
became
not
only
my
story
but,
in
finding
out
who
my
grandmother
was,
I
had
to
research
the
Anglo
Boer
War
and
concentration camps. I also plotted a genealogy table, which I published in the book.
I
did
the
layout
of
the
book,
added
photographs
and
self-published,
not
realising
how
much I had enjoyed working on the project.
Since
then
I
have
been
approached
by
those
with
a
book
they
want
published,
for
advice
and editing. Here it is often those, for whom English is a second language.
The
project
becomes
one
we
share
–
my
editing
is
done
on
grammar,
but
I
also
make
suggestions
where
applicable,
on
the
writing
style,
content,
and
anything
else
that
might
improve the finished product.
I
strongly
recommend
self-publishing.
However,
the
project
is
the
author’s
and
the
service
provided,
aims
to
advise,
assist,
and
support,
with
the
goal
being
to
get
that
book
into
the
hands
of
the
person,
who
has
spent so many hours writing it.

the
work
done,
to
understand that anything is possible.
“What a miracle it is that
out of these small, flat,
rigid squares of paper
unfolds world after world
after world, worlds that
sing to you, comfort and
quiet or excite you.”
